Fill in the Blank Friday

(Thanks to Lauren)
1. My most prized possession is...Either my iPod, without which I feel a little lost...more so than without my laptop; or perhaps the scary amount of Tiffany's I recieved for my birthday. All of which I'm terrified to take off in case they mysteriously get lost between my wrist and the dressing table.

2. If I could be one age for the rest of my life, I would want to be...ha, I don't really think I've had enough of my life to be able to choose! Being 13-14 was perhaps my favourite age, where I was surronded by lovely friends. I quite like being the age I am now, with more independence arriving at last. However, I think being in my late teens/20s will be better. Hopefully.

3. The best way to spend a weekend is...With friends, I really really miss weekends which were that. Two days of just relaxing, occassionally going shopping, or going to the cinema.

4. My outlook on life is...Gosh. I guess I'd describe myself as realistic..others would probably say pessimistic. Although, at the minute, I'm incredibly optimistic about the future, going to university and potential post-uni things are really motivating me right now.

5. If you want to annoy me, just ...be really, really loud and attention-seeking; nothing makes me more angry! Apart from maybe people cracking their knuckles *shudder*

6. I am completely defenseless when it comes to...books that are on offer/low price (I've just found a site where you can the complete works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez for TEN POUNDS [$16?])

7. When dressing for the day one should...wear whatever you feel comfortable in :)

Fill in the Blank Friday

(Thanks to Lauren)

1. The best deal I've ever gotten is...I'm a bit useless in keeping track of this kind of thing! Although recently, work had a double discount day (so 40% off) and I picked up a few nice things in that. Today the only book shop in my town had a 50% off everything closing down sale (gah), most of which had already been reduced, which meant that I got five books for only £9; which is wonderful considering on my birthday I brought four books for nearly £40 in Waterstones.

2. If I were hosting a dinner party and could invite people from my fantasy guest list it would include...Gosh, I never know how to answer this question! I'd say Stephen Sondheim for series wit and hopefully to extend on the stories in Finishing the Hat; and Andrew Lloyd Webber because I'd love to see how those two men got on. Barack Obama, because he's fascinating, and Alistair Campbell because I think he's really interesting, even if he's a spin doctor. Oh, and Carey Mulligan because she seems wonderfully down-to-earth. Plus my close family and friends. And Jamie Oliver to cook nice relaxed food.

3. Something that inspires me is...other people. I feel constantly surrounded by brave, fashionable, intelligent, funny people who inspire me to do better.

4. If I could only choose to eat one flavor of food for the rest of eternity (sweet, salty, spicy, bitter....) I would have to go with...Argh! Well, I really hate salt; I don't even have it on chips so not that. I also have a massive sweet tooth, so not being able taste that would be hideous, but it wouldn't be very healthy to live off that forever. Spicy? Because then I could still eat cinnamon...right?

5. I dream about...the future. My dream job changes pretty much every day...right now I'm really intrigued by international security. Also, travelling far away.

6. My weekend will be spent...chilling out tomorrow, possibly actually going through the rather large chest in my room to sort out whatever I've got in there. On Sunday, I'll be working for four hours (as per usual) at work; possibly also some driving theory practice in there as well.

7. If I could only watch one movie or TV show for the rest of my life, it would be...I think...The West Wing seven series of wonderful witty characters and dialogue. Or maybe even Gossip Girl due to its lovely froffy substance.

Fill in the Blank Friday

1. The phrase or punctuation I overuse most is...I overuse smiley faces, and I think I probably use 'indeed' too much in writing; and apparently I say 'like' a lot.

2. Today I am thankful for...my parents, 4oD via YouTube and the fact that the sun is out and the sky is blue.

3. My best friend is...I don't think I specifically have a best friend. To be honest, I prefer friendships that are close...but not as close as a 'best friend' situation can be; I've had some pretty bad experiences due to friendships that were too tight that fall apart, and I like the fact that my friends are there for me and are supportive, but they don't feel the need to spend every second of every day together.

4. A quirky thing about me is...I have a habit of buying numerous pairs of tights...in addition to having nude & black ones, I've got grey, pink, red, blue, oat, brown and more colours. I have no idea when I intend to wear them all.

5. This weekend I...turn eighteen. I'm more scared than excited by this. But it does mean that I'm heading to London with my friends on Sunday, and I'm going out for dinner with my family tonight. So that's nice.

6. Something that worries me is...the Future. With a capital F. I have no real plan for it, and as someone who kind of likes order, that scares me.

7. On my night stand you would find...A mug with tea in, clock/radio, photo frame, driving theory book (in the hope that I'll read it), copies of Elle, copies of Vogue, Possession by AS Byatt and the journals of Sylvia Plath

Thanks to Lauren.
Happy Weekend :)

Fill in the Blank Friday

(Credit to Lauren)

1. I am currently obsessed with...Goodreads; seriously, the site is kind of addictive. It virtually allows you to stalk people's bookshelves; and I think books give a lot away about a person, although I'm too much of a wimp to actually 'friend' people from blogs/YouTube. Plus, it's helped me realise just how many books I already own that I haven't read, so hopefully will curb my book-buying habits a little.

2. Today I am...happy & nervous because...I'm happy because I've finally hit my stride with my English coursework, and should get it finished today, which will leave me 'free' to do the other work I've had to do this holiday. Nervous? Because I have to ring my work to check when I'm in and, although this sounds kind of pathetic, I really dislike ringing them, because they always act like checking the rota is the hardest thing anyone has asked them to do.

3. The age I am is...17 (18 soon) and the age I feel is...older and younger than this at the same time. I feel older in that sometimes I look at what people my age are doing and can't quite believe the self-centered-ness (not a word) of their actions and often I come out with things that I know make me sound about fifty. But on the other hand, I still don't feel entirely ready to leave home-I want to, but I'm not sure how I'll be-and I feel like I haven't done enough to be saying that I'm 18.

4. My favourite place is...my bedroom, or Moraira, Spain, where I've spent numerous summer holidays with my family since the age of about six.

5. Something I have been procrastinating is...Said English Coursework. I'll get back to it in a second...

6. The last thing I purchased was...The Brit Awards 2011 Album. Kind of disappointed at the lack of artists on there, especially people like Arcade Fire, Laura Marling etc who actually won awards. But at least now it'll seem like I have a clue about what's going on in music-wise

7. The thing I love most about my home is...My room...and, I guess the fact that it's generally quite a happy place to be.

Fill in the Blank Friday

Another Friday (actually on a Friday), thanks to Lauren.

1. I am...
bad at answering really open questions! I'm Amy, I'm 17 (18 in about...10 days?) and I'm currently waiting for my brother to finish in the bathroom, so I can wash my hair.

2. The bravest thing I've ever done was...I'm not very brave, to be honest. I would guess maybe taking a step back when an old friendship began to turn slightly toxic. It was the scariest thing I'd done, but I'm (kind of) happy that I made this step.

3. I feel prettiest when...I'm wearing one of my summery dresses; they make me feel instantly happier, and I think I feel happier in how I look when I'm in a good mood, if that makes sense?

4. Something that keeps me awake at night is...looming school deadlines. I'm not very good with having a lot of work going on at the same time, which isn't great at the moment where I've got one piece of English coursework, two pieces of History coursework and two RS essays to write over the coming half term.

5. My favourite meal in the entire world is...Gosh, I love food so it's hard for me to do this! I love enchiladas, cobbler (a stew thing that has like a dumpling crust), stir-frys and Ask's seafood ravioli, which is delicious. But; I think the thing that makes a meal are the people you're eating with, and for that reason I'd say that Pizza Hut food goes quite high on my list as I've had a lot of great meals there with my friends. Oh and Nandos....I said I liked food.

6. The way to my heart is...being genuine, funny and understanding

7. I would like to...be happy. Find something that fills me with happiness to do, and do it.

Fill in the Blank...Tuesday

I'm tempted to do a couple of these 'meme' type blog entries, just because I feel that there isn't enough of me coming through on these pages. Whilst, of course, this blog is a marker of my tastes and opinions on films, books, TV and sometimes music, I'd also like it to be a kind of marker of my opinions generally-so I can look back at it in a couple of years and remember what my thought processes were.

This is originally a 'Fill in the Blank Friday', started by Lauren, whose blog I have only just rediscovered. So here we go:

1. The TV show/website that I watch/read that I would be embarrassed to tell anyone about is...To be honest, I don't really watch that much 'embarrassing' TV, purely because I don't really enjoy reality shows. Maybe Snog Marry Avoid would fit into this category, but I'm not embarrassed about it because I think it has good intentions. My friends view Glee as being worth of mocking; but I think it's just a fun indulgence, same with Gossip Girl. Internet-wise, I'm embarrassed that I'm so addicted to social-networking, but so are the majority of people my age.

2. An item of clothing that is worn & torn but that I love far too much to throw away...I had to think about this one for a little bit, as I don't really allow my clothes to get 'worn & torn' but I would guess that my pairs of jeans, that are stupidly frayed, but they're really comfortable. I also still own my three pairs of jodhpurs from riding, that I haven't done in about 2 years, but I'm still holding on to, in case university has a society, or I'm ever called upon to dress up as a jockey.

3. My grocery store impulse buy is...I don't grocery shop, yet. But I can guess that when I'm older, it'll be basically anything that is bad for me. Reese's Pieces are something I cannot even resist now. And if grocery stores sell magazines, then...that will be what I spend excessive amounts of money on.

4. Something I do at work to pass time that I wouldn't want my co-workers to know about is...When being stood on the fitting rooms for four hours, I have counted the amount of lights in the store (like, 88); plus I quite frequently shop in my head when I'm supposed to be putting stock back.

5. One thing in my life that I could give up, but never will is...Facebook, there are times when I go on it and I feel like shouting SHUT UP at my screen. But it's an annoyingly handy way of getting in touch with people quickly/spending time stalking people.

6. A little indulgence that I have is...Whenever I've had a good/bad day, and am carrying money in my purse, and I'm killing time before the bus, I buy myself a book. I have a stupid 'to-read' list now.

7. The junk drawer/area in my house is...My personal one is in my bedside table; the main drawer is downstairs in the kitchen-but my Mum keeps it so tidy it's probably quite hard to tell it's a junk drawer.
